Casey’s Morning Show Concert Do’s And Don’ts!

By: Casey Fitzsimmons//

One of my favorite parts of the year is when Good Morning America and the Today Show announce their Summer Concert Series.  For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, these two morning shows hold concerts in New York City mostly every Friday throughout the summer, and the concerts feature some of the most popular artists.  My very first concert was a Good Morning America concert back in 2004, and since then I’ve attended many of the concerts that Good Morning America and the Today Show have put on.  Here are some of my do’s and don’ts for morning show concerts!

Screen Shot 2016-06-23 at 12.47.47 PM.pngDO: Expect to camp out. If the artist has a very large fanbase in New York City, expect people to be there at least 24-hours before the concert.  In 2008, the Jonas Brothers were performing on Good Morning America and fans were lined up three days before the concert.  When people ask me what time they think is good to go to the concert, I always say the night before.

DON’T: Push, shove, or get aggressive.  The NYPD and security are there to help you and protect you, but you need to make sure that you respect them.  If they say no running, do not run.  If they say no pushing, do not even think to push.  You can get kicked out!

DO: Bring a backpack or small purse, and pack lightly.  There is nowhere to put your bags or purses, so you are going to have to be carrying your belongings with you throughout the concert.  A small backpack or purse with necessities is your best bet.

DON’T: Think that you are going to be front row and will be able to see everything. I know for the Today Show the stage can be very hard to see depending on where you stand. Also, there could be a very tall person in front of you, and if you are 5’3 like me, you are going to have a difficult time seeing.

DO: Stay hydrated! At many concerts I’ve attended, people have passed out.  It’s important to stay hydrated at concerts like these, especially because you’re surrounded by many people and it gets very hot very quickly.

DON’T: Wear uncomfortable clothing. Please refrain from wearing wedges or a dress or something fancy.  This is not a concert where you have a seat and a meet-and-greet, but if it was, by all means, wear what you want!  I think wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and comfortable sneakers is the way to go.

DO: Have fun! Make sure you have a great time! You have opportunities to get on television, see your favorite artist, hear your favorite songs and have an experience of a lifetime.

Well, I hope you are able to take something from these tips. To see the schedule for the Today Show and Good Morning America, I have listed them below.  Have a great time!
