I first heard Fitz and the Tantrums a couple of years ago when I couldn’t sleep at 5AM. ‘Out of my League’ came on one of the MTV music channels and I was instantly hooked. I recommended them to everyone I knew because they seemed like a band that no one could dislike. Their music is fun, catchy, and most importantly, it makes you want to dance!
When I found out Fitz and the Tantrums were going back on tour I was so excited. I immediately went to buy tickets… until I found out the concert would be on a Wednesday night. My excitement went from a high ten to a low three in the matter of seconds when I looked at the tour dates. Although this minor detail would never stop me from attending the show, I knew it would be difficult to convince others to come with me. Just then, I got a text from my aunt, “Did you see? Fitz and the Tantrums are going on tour!” My excitement shot back up again, knowing I could always count on her to be interested in the same music on any night! We talked about purchasing tickets in the Sky Bar because we love the type of experience where you can sit in the center of the top section and oversee everything going on down below.
We were the first couple of people to arrive in our section and we sat down with our drinks in an awesome spot where we were able to view the entire stage. We relaxed and enjoyed the opening act, Barns Courtney, while the whole floor filled up with anticipation for Fitz. They came out to ‘Get Right Back’ from their new album and from there, the night was gold. The set list was a perfect mix of old and new songs, and I was jumping and dancing in my seat the whole time. The whole band was so engaging with the crowd and it just felt like they were there for the fans. Every song and every interaction just gave this great feeling of closeness.
They ended the show with a three-song encore: ‘HandClap’, ‘6 AM’, and ‘The Walker’. Of course, I was tired from a long workday, but I wasn’t ready for the show to end. Fitz and the Tantrums have a way of engaging the crowd and bringing true happiness through their songs. I can’t wait for them to come back to town!
