Little Mix Ups The Ante For Girl Groups

by: Amanda Lee//

If you look up the definition of a ‘girl group’ in the dictionary, you’ll find a picture of Little Mix. Little Mix were the winners of the 8th season of X Factor UK. Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jade Thirlwall make up the only group to ever win The X Factor UK so far. I saw Little Mix open up for Ariana Grande’s Dangerous Woman Tour a few weeks ago and was so happy to see them absolutely rock their performance.  Even though they’re one of the most successful British girl groups since the Spice Girls and have obtained 4 #1 singles in the U.K, they haven’t achieved the same level of commercial success in the United States.

I’m here to tell you that they are extremely underrated here in America and here are a few reasons why:

  1. Vocals

These girls get an equal chance to slay in every song.

I mean, check out this cover of “Love On The Brain.”

2. Live Performances

They are always consistent with their live performances. Their vocals and choreography are always on point! You can tell by these performances that these girls work extremely hard.

3. Girl Power & Friendship

A lot of their songs revolve around female empowerment and friendship. “Salute” is for sure an anthem for the ladies. These girls are always there for each other when it comes to boys and ex’s. “Shout Out To My Ex” and “Hair” are some great breakup anthems. When they won their first Brit Award earlier this year, Jade made sure to emphasize in their speech just how much she loved her bandmates.

Overall, these girls are adorable, down-to-earth and insanely talented. C’mon America, wake up and let Little Mix happen.
