The live action remake of the Disney classic The Lion King was announced earlier this year with director Jon Favreau naming Beyoncé as his top choice for the part of Nala. For months, it was unclear if Beyoncé’s busy schedule would allow her to lend her voice to the legendary movie musical, but our concerns can FINALLY be laid to rest. In a tweet on Wednesday, Disney confirmed that Queen Bey will be playing Nala, finalizing the cast for the live action remake. James Earl Jones will return to reprise his infamous portrayal of Mufasa. Alongside Jones and Beyoncé will be Donald Glover as Simba and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar.

This live action adaptation is not Disney’s first time taking one of its classic animations and transitioning it into a live action film. Disney has had great success with their live action versions of Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and Beauty and the Beast. The addition of such a beloved classic may make The Lion King one of the most highly anticipated adaptations yet!
The 1994 original animation is one of Disney’s highest performing classics and is a film that is held dear to a generation of Disney lovers. The news of The Lion King’s return has been met with much excitement. Along with the legendary casting this film has all the makings of another box office hit!
