Echosmith Shows in NYC and Philadelphia

Echosmith’s Love-Filled Tour Hit NYC and Philly Last Weekend

Echosmith, whose claim to fame was their 2013 smash hit “Cool Kids”, have hit the road again, this time in support of their newest release, “Inside A Dream.” The Inside A Dream Tour was originally scheduled for the fall of 2017, but was rescheduled to coincide with the release of their EP. The sibling trio, along with new touring members Jacob Evergreen of Mermaed and Breanne Düren, formerly of Owl City, kicked off the tour in early April with support from Jena Rose and The Score.

This past weekend when the group hit the east coast, I had the privilege of attending both their NYC and Philly shows. As a longtime fan of the band, I’ve had the honor of getting to know them over the past few years.

On April 27th, the band played the Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia, PA. Playing all of their hits from their 2013 debut album “Talking Dreams,” the new songs from their “Inside A Dream” EP, and their newest single, “Over My Head.” The show brought out a great crowd ready for jam after jam. The band also covered “I Will Follow You Into The Dark” by Death Cab For Cutie and, later into the set, “When You Were Young” by The Killers. During their single, “Tell Her You Love Her,” Sydney hands out flowers to members of the crowd. In NYC, she gave out red roses, and in Philly she gave out yellow daisies, giving me the first daisy in Philly. Can you tell I’m swooning?

At one point in their set, halfway through the title track of their debut album, Sydney brought yours truly on stage!! Echosmith’s manager (and dad) then hands me a yellow parasail and sends me out onstage. I’m greeted by Sydney with a tight hug and she says “it’s so nice to see you again!” She then asks me to introduce myself to the crowd and asks me if I’ve ever used a parasail before, and I say no. Sydney teaches me how to use the parasail (which is very hard btw) similar to the one she always uses during the song. It was truly a surreal moment being onstage with a band I felt I’ve grown up with and watched quite a few times over the past few years. Of course, the song ends, and she sends me back to the crowd with the yellow parasail to keep.

The next night the band headed north to NYC to play at Irving Plaza in Union Square. The band has previously played (and sold out) every room of Webster Hall, so this was different compared to their other NYC shows. I had VIP for NYC so I got to attend the band’s preshow meet and greet, two song acoustic set, and take a polaroid with the band. The crowd had incredible energy and belted every song at their loudest. Sydney confirmed this was the loudest show of the tour. And, of course, ending the set with their hit “Cool Kids,” in a confetti-filled end. After the show that night the band ran to perform at Emo Nite in Brooklyn, NY.

Both nights the band came out after the show to meet fans who did not have VIP and talk to fans who waited as they always have.

At both shows the band gave it their all, spread love, and showed their dedication to music. It was a weekend filled with hugs, love, and lots of confetti. The band is continuing their tour across the country ending in LA on May 12th.

Tickets for the remaining dates of their tour can be purchased here!
