Florence + The Machine’s Summer Tour Proceeds Will Go to Local Women’s Charities

Last week, Florence Welch, front woman of Florence + The Machine, took to Twitter to announce that the group will be opening for The Rolling Stones in London as part of their UK tour.  While this is a big enough deal in itself, she hit us with another huge announcement, a Florence + the Machine intimate tour, just a few days later.  With their latest single, “Sky Full of Song”, released on Record Store Day, and a new single, “Hunger”, coming later this week, it’s definitely gearing up to be a huge summer for the group.

On Twitter, Welch shared that she is “Excited to announce some intimate shows in the UK & US this May”, but it doesn’t end there.  She announced that at each date, a percentage of the ticket sales will go towards various British and American charities.  For the band’s UK dates,  £1 of each ticket sale will go to Shelter, which helps UK citizens combat bad housing and homelessness. As for her shows at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, $1 of every ticket sold will be donated to WIN, an organization much like Shelter, that provides safe housing for homeless women and children in NYC.  Finally, the last show of the tour in Los Angeles will be donating $1 per each ticket sale to the Downtown Women’s Center, which focuses on empowering homeless women in LA.

We have to say, Florence scores mad props for these efforts. It’s great to see artist’s empowering others and supporting local communities, and to see women supporting women.  If you can manage to score a ticket to one of these shows, not only is it for a great cause but it’s bound to be a great show.  Check out the tour dates below for more info:
