Pop Singer-Songwriter Julia Michaels is back with her first song of 2018, “Jump.” It’s also the first single from her hotly anticipated debut album. She released her debut EP Nervous System last year, which featured the mega-single “Issues.”
“When it’s us, baby, when it’s us
You make me forget that I’m not ready for love
I jump, oh, I jump”– Julia Michaels / “Jump”
The song is a fun Trip-Hop inspired Pop song about new love after a big breakup and the fear of falling too fast. The themes of relationships and love are something Julia Michaels sticks to and that’s because she perfectly captures the many levels and layers of feelings within them. The song features Trippie Redd, an Ohio-based rapper who you might recognize from the Rolling Loud lineup.
In “Jump,” Michaels knows she’s falling fast yet again, hence the subtle wordplay. As the song plays you hear Julia go back and forth as she tries her best not to repeat the same pattern but one constant remains, she is a lover of love.
“‘Cause all I do is jump right into your arms
Every time I see you, I just wrap myself around you, yeah”– Julia Michaels / “Jump”
The guest rap from Trippie Reddie adds a bit of swag and, of course, a male perspective to the song. As the story plays it’s accompanied by a fun, bouncy and chill pop beat that’s perfect for summer. We can almost guarantee you’ll be adding this one to your summer playlist.
