It’s no secret that Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez‘s years of on-again, off-again have been an inspiration in their musical endeavors. We can pretty much assume that at least some of the songs they’ve released over the past several years reference their relationship. That said, some songs were inspired by the love they shared, and others by the heartbreak. We wanted to break down some of the songs we think most likely refer to their relationship. Check it out:
- Back To You
This song is Selena’s most recent release and there are some lyrical references that could very well be alluding to her relationship with Justin. Some of the lyrics include “Let a couple years water down how i’m feeling about you,” which could very well be about the couples’ rocky on-again, off-again relationship over the years. The chorus, which goes, “I wanna hold you when I’m not supposed to, when I’m lying close to someone else” could also refer to Selena’s feelings for Justin while she was dating The Weeknd. There are a lot more possible references to JB in the song, so check out the lyric video to find even more!
After this song’s initial release, many fans began to speculate that it was about Selena. The song partially acts an an apology to her (and also to the rest of the world) for his past bad behavior. One line in particular says, “I’ll go, I’ll go and then you go, you go out and spill the truth//Can we both say the words and forget this?” This could mean that he simply wants to put the past behind him and start fresh, and who could really blame him?
3. The Heart Wants What It Wants
This emotional ballad makes it pretty obvious that it was written about Justin. The dialogue at the beginning of the music video is very emotional and really gives her fans insight into the heartbreak she was going through. Lyrics in this song include “The future that we hold is so unclear,” which indicates how confusing and difficult the breakup was for her.
This song was highly speculated to be about his breakup with Selena. The song references wanting to become friends with an ex and not wanting to let go of what they had. Lyrics in this song include, “Know we didn’t end this so good, but you know we had something so good.” The lyrics of this song sound very much like they’re about Justin and Sel’s breakup, so we’re gonna go with it!
