After a long 6 years, Christina Aguilera finally released her highly anticipated eighth studio album, Liberation. This album is the perfect combination of R&B, pop and hip-hop, and is exactly what Xtina fans have been waiting all these years for. Liberation includes musical collaborations with Demi Lovato, Ty Dolla $ign, 2 Chainz, GoldLink, Keida, Shenseea and XDNA, as well as notable producers such as Kanye West, Anderson .Paak, MNEK and Charlie Heat.
Of course, Aguilera sings about sex in songs like “Right Moves,” but she also showcases her powerhouse vocals in songs like “Twice,” and fan favorite, “Unless it’s with You,” which was co-written by Teddy Geiger, who Rolling Stone calls the album’s “crown jewel.” While listening to Liberation in full for the first time, we had moments where we found ourselves sitting back in pure awe of this woman’s vocals. She truly has a voice like no other!
Here are our top 3 favorite songs off of Liberation
#1: “Fall in Line”
If you know me, you know that this song caught my attention first because it features my favorite artist, Demi Lovato. Fall in Line has been described by Aguilera as a feminist anthem, with lyrics such as “All the youth in the world will not save you from growing older and all the truth in a girl is too precious to be stolen from her.” The music video speaks for itself, and this song overall has such a special meaning.
#2: “Sick of Sittin’”
This song is one of my favorites off the album. we found ourselves bopping our heads to this very upbeat song within the first few seconds. “Sick of Sittin’” featured parts of talking to a live audience, where you can hear the audience cheering in the background and she is telling everyone to stand up. One line that spoke out to me was “I’ve been workin’ too hard to not be livin,” which I immediately made my bio on Twitter.
Although “Dreamers” is an interlude song, it holds a powerful message. It features a group of young girls talking about their goals, such as “I want to be a journalist,” “I want to be a superhero,” “I want to be a boss” and more. In fact, one of the young girls is Christina’s daughter, Summer! From the sounds of their voices, the featured girls are different ages, and hearing them talk about what they want to do when they grow up is inspiring.
Overall, we think this album is going to be on repeat throughout the whole year! Make sure you stream Liberation on Apple Music or Spotify, and catch Christina on The Liberation Tour at a city near you!
