Liam Payne Delays Album Release in Favor of New EP

Liam Payne has delayed his upcoming album album release in favor of dropping a new EP instead. Payne has released several singles over the last couple of years, starting with “Strip That Down” and most recently, “Familiar,” a duet with J Balvin.

His debut album has been a few years in the making; however, Payne admitted through his Twitter account that the songs that were intended to be on his debut album felt like they didn’t truly represent who he is anymore.

He wrote in the letter, “I looked at some of the songs on my album which were done a while ago and they felt from another age. I’m determined for my debut album to truly represent me. I’m now back in the studio working hard to finalise the final few new songs on the record — I’m genuinely excited about the music I’m writing and recording and I can’t wait for it to be ready for you all.”

Payne will be releasing his new EP, First Time, in lieu of his debut album on Friday, August 24th. He encouraged fans via his social media channels to pre-save it. The tracklist was also revealed: four new tracks are on the EP, including Payne’s brand new title-track single “First Time,” which features French Montana. The other three tracks are “Home With You,” “Depend on It,” and “Slow.”

Payne also wiped all previous photos on his Instagram account in order to reveal the front and back covers of the EP.

Payne’s decision to forgo his debut album in favor a new EP may have something to do with the fact that he split with longtime girlfriend, Cheryl, back in July after two years of dating and after the birth of their son, Bear, in March of 2017. Payne has also confirmed his new romance with model Cairo Dwekb after photos surfaced of the two packing on PDA. With big life changes comes new experiences to write about, and Payne is clearly eager to release songs that reflect his current lifestyle.
