The Knocks Release New Single “Goodbyes” & Announce New Album

Electronic music duo The Knocks have just announced their newest album New York Narcotic. The highly anticipated sophomore LP will be coming after a year and a half in the making, on September 28. In the meantime, the duo has been busy releasing multiple singles from the upcoming album. Already seeing success with 15 million Spotify streams is their funky collaboration with Foster the People, “Ride or Die.” Their newest single, “Goodbyes,” is quickly coming up behind “Ride or Die” as their next hit.

The duo, consisting of B-Roc and JPatt, have an impressive roster of featured artists on the upcoming album. The pair was able to recruit Wu Tang member Method Man to feature with signature rap verses on the new track. An eclectic mashup of dance/funk vibes and interrupting rap verses, the single is a perfect body moving blend. Starting off with what could be mistaken as the perfect hook to the alt-pop song of the summer, the track is carried by funky horn licks and deep electronic beats. The intense voice of Method Man peppers in a contrast that keeps the track interesting.

Alongside the single is the release of a home-made VHS style music video, aiding as an homage to New York 90s Hip-Hop. Nods to the ’90s imagery can be caught throughout the grainy video. You can see a group of friends hanging out on city stoops and having a good time. Shots of the skyline covered in animated doodles add to the fun nature of the track. All of this together creates a simple ode to New York Hip-Hop that easily compliments the song. The collaboration between The Knocks and Method Man has easily created a track that blends some of the best sounds of New York hip-hop and modern dance.
