Tori Kelly Drops “Never Alone” and Announces Upcoming Worship Album

If you aren’t already familiar with the smooth and soulful voice of Tori Kelly, now might be the time to get onboard. Last Friday, August 24, the Grammy-nominated recording artist released “Never Alone,” the first single off her upcoming worship album entitled Hiding Place. The song features Grammy-winning American gospel singer, Kirk Franklin.

Kelly, best known for “Nobody Love” and “Should’ve Been Us” off her 2015 album Unbreakable Smile, recently took a break from the spotlight. In a letter posted to Instagram earlier this month, she wrote, “I know I’ve been laying low for a while, and some very exciting things have happened in my life. The crazy thing about songwriting is you gotta live a little in order to have experiences to write about.”

Her new song, “Never Alone” is an ode to the time Kelly took to seemingly focus on herself and re-evaluate her priorities. The uplifting gospel tune talks about her struggles with not feeling good enough, but being able to conquer the pain and come out on the other side with an optimistic and hopeful outlook on life. Kelly’s impressive range and runs paired with her warm, soothing tone make this heartfelt single one that you simply can’t miss. The accompanying video is equally as compelling, featuring a gospel choir and a very impassioned performance by both Franklin and Kelly.

In addition to the single, Kelly also announced her new album, Hiding Place, which is set to be released on September 14, 2018. The album features eight tracks and teases collaborations with The Hamiltones and Jonathan McReynolds.

Fans have expressed their excitement about the worship album, commenting on how much they’ve missed Kelly’s music and online presence, while others have shared their disappointment that the album is not a pop record. Personally, the chills I get from Kelly’s voice and music have me eager to hear more, regardless of the album’s genre.

You can now purchase and stream “Never Alone” on iTunes, as well as pre-order Hiding Place.
