American Music Awards Nominations 2018

AMAs 2018 Snubs & Surprises: BTS, Beyoncé, Ariana Grande and More!

The 46th annual American Music Awards will take place on October 9 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, CA. Tracee Ellis Ross is hosting again for the second year in a row. The nominations were recently announced, with Cardi B and Drake leading the pack with eight noms each. The AMAs, as usual, are fan voted and performers will be announced in the coming weeks.

Some notable snubs include the absence of Childish Gambino in the favorite rap/hip-hop category, Artist of The Year, and Favorite Music Video for “This is America.” Although Cardi B is nominated for best new artist, we believe that she deserves a nomination for Artist of the Year as well. Beyoncé and Jay-Z who released their joint album, Everything is Love, failed to garner any noms besides Tour of the Year. Country music star Kacey Musgraves was not nominated this year, although her album, Golden Hour, received critical acclaim. Some fans might notice Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj were not nominated in any of the major categories. Unfortunately, Ariana and Nicki’s albums Sweetener and Queen respectively were released past the cutoff date to be considered.

However, this year does mark the first year that Korean-pop boy band BTS is nominated for an AMA for Favorite Social Artist which marks another huge achievement for the band. Still, fans of the band consider this a snub, as they believe BTS should’ve been nominated for more than just their social media presence. TBH, we totally agree!

Voting begins now for most categories on www.billboard.com/amas, or you can vote on Twitter! Here’s how:
