Cheat Codes & Kim Petras Collaborate on “Feeling of Falling”

This year, breakout pop star Kim Petras has grown quite the following, and we couldn’t be more proud! After releasing multiple hit singles (including “Heart to Break” and “All The Time”) and surprising fans with the drop of her Halloween mixtape TURN OFF THE LIGHT, VOL. 1, she’s finishing 2018 out strong as a feature on Cheat Codes’ brand new electro-pop single, “Feeling of Falling.” This is Petras’ third official collaboration, following behind her work with Lil Aaron and Charli XCX.

Looking at Petras’ previous work, there’s no doubt that she’s a hopeless romantic. A majority of her songs revolve around themes of love, lust, and devotion. Usually, Petras will take no shame in sharing how desperately she wants to be with her love interest. However, Petras appears more vulnerable and genuine on “Feeling of Falling.” Even though you can’t deny the song is a bop, the lyrics are a bit more melancholy as Petras shares the resentment she feels when it comes to starting a new relationship.

“Feeling of Falling” is ridiculously catchy between Petras’ airy vocals and emotional lyrics. In the chorus, Petras admits “I hate the feeling of falling // I can’t keep bleeding, I’m sorry // I’ll take the blame if you want me // ‘Cause I hate the feeling of falling in love.” She is so immersed in this individual that she feels super anxious to hurry up and define the relationship. She questions if this is a serious love, or just another fling while reflecting her past experiences.

We love that Petras speaks so honestly on something that we can all relate to as she deals with contemplation, distrust, and doubt. Petras shared in an interview with PAPER Magazine that “‘Feeling of Falling’ is a song about ending up brokenhearted and trying to stay away from love to protect yourself… I’m the biggest emo, so I really connected to this song. Cheat Codes are amazing, and I’ve had the best time collaborating on this one.”

The cover art itself sets up the perfect imagery to fit the lyrics and EDM beat. The single’s cover shows the glamorous Petras herself, falling in space.  The artwork by Neil Favila could definitely be a metaphor that depicts how Petras feels in this single. This entire collaboration was produced flawlessly, and we cannot WAIT to see where Petras will go from here onto 2019 and beyond!
