TVXQ! Truth Review

TVXQ! Celebrates 15th Anniversary with Release of “Truth”

The holidays are a time for giving, and TVXQ! sure delivered for their fans to help finish out 2018. TVXQ! made their debut on December 26, 2003. To celebrate the milestone, they have released their new album New Chapter #2: The Truth of Love along with the record’s first single “Truth” and its music video.

The jazz-influenced pop track has an upbeat feel, immediately setting the mood. The record is both reflective and hopeful, as Changmin and Yunho sing of moving on from heartbreak to find true love. Both members’ voices fit well together, effortlessly sharing lines. The adlibbing that closes out the track is a nice touch that adds more to the tune’s jazzy vibe.

The music video changes between scenes of the members surrounded by rising water, dancing in the streets, with backup dancers, and various other artistic shots. The direction and cinematography are focused with beautiful use of color. I especially like the dance scenes with the dancers’ outfits contrasting nicely with the solid soundstage. The choreography is technical but smooth, and both members get a chance to shine with some solo dancing. The final scene of the video, where Changmin and Yunho dance as the streetlights turn out and a spotlight appears on them, is my personal favorite.

“Truth” is a catchy song that balances the emotions of heartbreak and moving on well. With 2019 just beginning, we’re getting ready to move on ourselves, and TVXQ! has given us a great sendoff into the new year and hope for a fresh start.
