In case you forgot, music’s biggest night is happening in just a few weeks. The 61st annual Grammy Awards will take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 10, and will be hosted by fifteen-time Grammy winner Alicia Keys. Last week, the first round of performers were announced, and trust us… it’s a star-studded lineup.
Two-time Grammy winner Kacey Musgraves is nominated for four awards this year; two for her album Golden Hour (Best Country Album and Album of the Year), Best Country Solo Performance for “Butterflies,” and Best Country Song for “Space Cowboy.” She’ll be performing at the show this year and we’re hoping she decides to play “Space Cowboy.” It’s a catchy and tear-jerking ballad that we love singing along to.
The other country act that will be performing that night is Dan + Shay. Not only will this be their first time playing the Grammys, but it’s also the first time they’re nominated! Their smash crossover hit “Tequila” is up for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.
One of our favorite modern-day crooners Shawn Mendes will be taking the Grammy stage for the first time ever and also earned his first ever noms! His song “In My Blood” is nominated for Song of the Year, and his self-titled album is up for Best Pop Vocal Album. A few weeks ago, we listed “In My Blood” as one of our favorite top 40 singles of 2018, so naturally, we’re crossing our fingers that it’s what he chooses to sing.
Up against Mendes for Best Pop Vocal Album is Camila Cabello for her debut solo album, Camila! She’s also up for Best Pop Solo Performance for “Havana (Live).” While it’s likely that she’ll perform “Havana” at the Grammys, we’re hoping for at least a few seconds of “Never Be The Same,” which was one of our favorite songs last year.
While a Dirty Computer has been on Janelle Monáe‘s mind in 2018, this year she’ll be focusing on TV as she takes the Grammy stage. The eight-time Grammy nominated singer is up for two awards this year. Her Dirty Computer album is nominated for Album of the Year and “PYNK” is up for Music Video of the Year! Will she be performing “PYNK” or her hit “Make Me Feel?” Only time will tell…
Rounding out the first round of performers are two of rap’s biggest newcomers: Cardi B and Post Malone. Cardi B was nominated last year, but ultimately didn’t win. Her album Invasion of Privacy is up for Album of the Year and Best Rap Album, “Be Careful” is up for Best Rap Performance, “I Like It” is nominated for Record of the Year, and her “Girls Like You” duet with Maroon 5 is nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. With five nominations, this might be Cardi’s year!
This is Post Malone’s first slew of nominations ever. His hit song “Rockstar” is up for Best Rap/Sung Performance and Record of the Year, “Better Now” is nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance, and his album beerbongs & bentleys is up for Album of the Year. Both Cardi B and Post Malone had so many hits this past year that we can’t help but wonder if they’ll each perform a medley of their hits. Tune in on February 10 to see these epic performances and, of course, to see who wins!
