Breaking records is nothing new for K-pop superstars BTS, and the Guinness Book of World Records has taken notice.
On April 12, the boy group released the music video for their latest single “Boy With Luv” featuring Halsey. The single comes off of the group’s new album Map of the Soul: Persona.
According to YouTube, the video gained 74.6 million views in its first 24 hours of release. This has earned BTS not one, not two, but three Guinness World Records for Most Viewed YouTube Video in 24 Hours, Most Viewed YouTube Music Video in 24 Hours, and Most Viewed YouTube Music Video in 24 Hours by a K-Pop Group.
Previous record holders include Ariana Grande‘s “thank u, next” with 55.4 million views, Taylor Swift‘s “Look What You Made Me Do” with 43.2 million views and fellow K-Pop idols BLACKPINK with 56.7 million views for “Kill This Love.”
BTS has held these records before with their single “IDOL,” which garnered 45 million views.
BTS is also the first K-pop act to reach no. 1 on the U.S. albums chart, and they have the most Twitter engagement. Just yesterday, it was revealed that the group is the first K-pop act to take the no. 1 spot on the U.K. albums chart.
The group also helped collaborator Halsey return to the Social 50 chart at no. 9. It marks the singer’s first appearance in the top 10 since August 2018. On April 11 she posted on Twitter, thanking ARMY for embracing the collaboration. BTS and Halsey will be performing “Boy With Luv” together live for the first time at this year’s Billboard Music Awards on May 1 in Las Vegas.
Since its release, “Boy With Luv” has gained over 180 million views. The group recently made their debut on Saturday Night Live, performing “Boy With Luv” and “Mic Drop.” The seven-piece show no signs of slowing down anytime soon, with upcoming tour dates around the world and probably many more collaborations and releases in the works.
