LANY and Julia Michaels just teamed up and gave music fans a breakup song that almost everyone can easily relate to. LANY lead singer Paul Klein has proven to us time and time again that he is an amazing songwriter. Julia Michaels also is very well known for writing tons of amazing songs of her own on top of a long list of hits for other big artists. So when we heard that these two were in the studio together, we just had a gut feeling this song was going to be a good one.
“Okay” captures the feelings of going through a really rough breakup and asking yourself the question, “I’m gonna be okay, right?” Paul and Julia’s voices beautifully blend together throughout the duration of the track as they perfectly describe the feeling of heartbreak while still keeping the tune upbeat and fun.
The lyrics describe how it feels to experience the end of a relationship, touching on subjects like moving out of your shared apartment, wondering if you’ll ever receive a call or text from that person again, and trying to do literally anything possible to get your mind off of them. The two sing, “Don’t check my phone, I know for sure you haven’t called me // I fill my days with stupid sh** to keep me busy // Instead of you, I’m ending every night with whiskey.”
We honestly can’t believe Julia and Paul had never met prior to getting together to write this masterpiece! One thing we know for sure is that we definitely would be “okay” if these two worked together again in the future, as they never fail to hit us right in the feels with their musical abilities. LANY is currently on tour so make sure to catch them in a city near you, and also catch Julia on tour with P!NK.
