Last Friday, Sara Bareilles honored moms everywhere with the release of her new single, “Shiny.” An homage to her mom, the sweetly soft single is a beautiful way to do give a little back.
Her voice floats sweetly over a simple collection of acoustic guitars. “I see what she can’t see // Her light only ever landed on me,” Bareilles delicately sings in the chorus. The song encapsulates the simple moments between mother and daughter—the ones that the child sees and the unspoken emotions in that relationship. “There’s a glimmer in her brown eyes // The ones she gave to me // So I know we can both be shiny.”
Bareilles went to Instagram on Friday to post a heartwarming slideshow of her and her mother for the release of “Shiny”.
She even called on fans to share their favorite photo with their moms to show them “how special they are.” She then created another gorgeous slideshow showing off some of her favorite photos of her fans with their moms.
The single comes as the first off of her long-awaited album Amongst the Chaos. Since some of her earlier hits like “Love Song” and “Brave,” Bareilles spent time writing the music for Broadway musical Waitress. Now, she has graced us all with some new singer-songwriter hits, including this tear-jerker. The new album even features a collaboration with the iconic John Legend.
