We had the opportunity to chat with KINGDM late last year. The triple threat (songwriter, producer, and DJ) has released his new track, “Dance for Me,” and officially announced that his new EP, Alter Ego, will be released soon.
“Dance for Me” is the lead track off of the EP, which follows his two earlier single releases this year, “Edge (feat. Sam Hope)” and “FRFR (feat. Reo Cragun and Rowlan).” Alter Ego is described as a “darker perspective of a rebellion and self-searching wrapped up in the stratospheric electronic soundscape.” The collection of songs were written, produced and recorded at KINGDM’s home studio in Los Angeles.
“Dance for Me” showcases KINGDM as the lead vocalist. He hinted that his vocals would be predominantly featured on Alter Ego. The track boasts a haunting, yet energetic beat, which blends well with his moody vocals. As the title suggests, the track is about a man asking a woman if he will dance for him; he wants to guide her, feel her, and give his all to her. He believes her love can save him from his own thoughts.
In the opening verse, he sings, “In my head drowning when the light’s off // Am I gonna sink on my own // Through my blood feeling like a poison/Take another sip of your love.” In the bridge, he follows up with, “I’m a liar // I’m a sinner // Could you be my remedy?”
“Dance for Me” is a track that proves that electronic music can be versatile. Most of us think of energetic, fist-pumping anthems when we think of electronic music. But what KINGDM has done with this track is fuse that aspect of electronic music with another darker, more moodier aspect.
It’s no wonder that Live Nation has hailed KINGDM as “one to watch” and an artist who is “dominating the nocturnal electronic world.” His music has also been championed by Zane Lowe, host of Beats 1 radio, and Annie Mac.
