LANY and Julia Michaels are known for their heart-wrenching tunes in which they reminisce about past loves and the devastating pain of a breakup. That’s why, when they decided to join forces to create their hopeful, yet vulnerable track “Okay,” it was bound to be a punch to the heart.
Full of baby blue lighting and disco ball spotlight, LANY frontman Paul Klein bares his soul alongside the “Issues” singer. The video takes place in a skating rink, allowing us to look back on precious first date moments. It’s a cliche of every ’80s movie — lingering glances and holding hands while gliding across the floor with the one you long for.
“Okay” is perfect dancehall pop laced with a sense of courage. The title says it all — no matter what the aftermath of a failed relationship brings, we’ll be okay. While the video delivers an eerie vibe with shadowy and pouty looks from Klein, it maintains some semblance of fun. Klein dances nonchalantly while Michaels shows off a slight smirk. It’s pure visual excellence and stays true to both LANY and Michaels’ vision.
LANY is currently on tour promoting their sophomore album, Malibu Nights. It’s an emotional ten-track LP that delves into love lost and most likely an outlet for Klein’s tumultuous breakup with pop star Dua Lipa.
Michaels is also touring nationwide, performing hits from her latest EP The Inner Monologue Part 1. The singer has shown off her prowess as a rising pop star and has opened up for numerous music industry favorites like Shawn Mendes, Keith Urban, Maroon 5 and P!nk.
The unexpected collaboration between these two artists has become one of our go-to tracks for the summer. Not to mention, the accompanying visual makes us yearn for the warm beach-filled days ahead.
