ICYMI, Katy Perry just released a summer bop, and we can absolutely guarantee you won’t be able to get out of your head! This catchy tune, co-produced by Zedd, is all about letting go — or trying to, at least.
The chorus of the track perfectly captures the essence of the song: “Two years and just like that // My head still takes me back // Thought it was done but I // Guess it’s never really over.” The song is all about how she’s still thinking about her former love — even several years after the fact.
The rushed lyrics of the post-chorus is what really brings the song together, giving it it’s catchy, addictive hook. “Just because it’s over doesn’t mean it’s really over // And if I think it over, maybe you’ll be coming over again // And I’ll have to get over you all over again.”
The video fits the vibes of the song perfectly, as the viewer is transported back in time to a ’70s retro rehabilitation center, transported by a white Volkswagen van and all. Showing the progression of healing and growth and somehow being thrown back into the same cycle, the singer is first seen sulking around her room before engaging in some pretty interesting activities around the gated compound.
Perry and the other victims of heartbreak can be seen participating in tai chi, cupping therapy (with heart-shaped cups of course), acupuncture, yoga, and frolicking in large fields to rid themselves of their sadness.
Even after collecting her tears to fix her heart and completing the program, Perry showed that it’s “never really over” as she is seen chasing a similar van down the street with her former lover inside it at the end of the video.
Fans seem to love the new track, and many have already dubbed it the song of the summer.
