Streaming has revolutionized the music industry in an unprecedented way. Whether that’s a good or bad thing is subjective, but adding streams to the Hot 100 calculations have made radio spins borderline irrelevant. Fans don’t have to buy songs anymore and they don’t have to wait for their local stations to add it to their rotation. It also means that fans have the power to control how long a song remains popular, since they’re not banking on others to circulate the music; they can singlehandedly do it themselves.
