Taylor Swift Track 5s

A Definitive Ranking of Taylor Swift’s Emotional Track 5 Songs, Worst to Best

3. “Dear John”

“Dear John” is arguably one of Swift’s best songs, let alone one of her best Track 5s. She sings about a toxic relationship where she was taken advantage of with the dramatic and somewhat sparse production accentuating her words. “Well maybe it’s me and my blind optimism to blame,” Swift sings, then adds, “Or maybe it’s you and your sick need to give love, then take it away.” Every line of this song is better than the last, finally culminating with one of her most empowering lyrics: “But I took your matches before fire could catch me / So don’t look now, I’m shining like fireworks over your sad, empty town.”
