Every once in awhile a collaboration comes around that we never knew we needed, and “Mean It” song is for sure one of them. Lauv and Lany have been hinting about working together for quite some time, and we finally get to see what they’ve been working on.
Lany and Lauv are both known for writing songs often dealing with ideas surrounding love and heartbreak so they were easily able to connect on this new track. Lauv wrote on Instagram about how easy it was for him to get comfortable with Paul Klein from Lany and how this song is equally both of the artists’ style.
The song “Mean It” is about wanting to mean more to someone who doesn’t seem to feel the same way and who often sees you as a second choice. The lyrics of the song are very catchy, and while the lyrics are somewhat sad, the song still sounds upbeat and fun.
The two artists’ voices complement each other very well and the song perfectly matches the style of both artists’ music. Lauv and Lany sing about the feeling of being lied to and wishing for their significant other to feel the same way as them. The lyrics in the chorus, “Don’t tell me you’re falling // With your feet still on the ledge,” perfectly describes the feelings Lauv and Lany feel towards their love interests in the song.
The song “Mean It” is featured on Lauv’s upcoming debut album How I’m Feeling due to release in March of next year. In addition to the song, Lauv and Lany released a video to go along with the track. The video depicts Lauv and Paul Klein slowly packing a vintage-looking car with various different items.
