Meghan Trainor Blames Her “Evil Twin” for Her Dark Side

Ever wish you had someone else to blame for all of your bad decisions? Meghan Trainor has the perfect solution: an “Evil Twin.”

“Evil Twin,” the fourth single off Trainor’s upcoming album Treat Myself, is a tongue-in-cheek description of an alter ego that usually comes out to play after a few drinks. “It wasn’t me // She started it,” Trainor sings ruefully. “I said just one // Then she got lit.”

Despite the forbidding title and regretful tone of the lyrics, the instrumental is a sparkling disco beat that keeps the song lighthearted. After listing all of the poor decisions her evil twin steers her towards, Trainor admits, “Even though she crazy, gotta love her ‘cause she half of me.” It’s a fun reminder that we need to love ourselves completely, warts and all.

Trainor revealed on Twitter that her family sings background vocals on the track. “Evil Twin” follows her previous release, “Wave,” from Treat Myself, due out January 31. “I’ve never worked harder on an album or been more proud of the music,” Trainor shared in a statement about the album release. “I cannot wait for you all to hear it!”

Recently, Trainor joined the superstar coaching panel of ITV’s The Voice UK, which includes Sir Tom Jones, will.i.am and Olly Murs. She will also be heading out on tour with Maroon 5 next year!
