2. “So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings” by Caroline Polachek
“You know I live for the hustle // But damn, I miss you tonight.”
This year Caroline Polachek broke away from her band Chairlift to release her debut solo album Pang. The album earned critical acclaim and has made waves in the pop world. “So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings” is at its core, a great pop song about missing someone who’s so attractive it hurts. But there’s so much more going on here. The production sounds so original it’s hard to put your finger on what it is that makes it so unique. Caroline’s voice is strange for traditional pop music, which makes the song all the more interesting. It would be a crime to not celebrate a song that’s simultaneously pure pop fun while keeping such an eccentric aesthetic.
