Before we had BTS, we had One Direction. And what a phenomenon they were! For a period of time, One Direction was the biggest boy band in the world, an absolute inescapable force that was darn near suffocating.

But in 2015, Zayn Malik, one-fifth of the iconic group, announced his departure. The group continued on for a little while without him, but even the most dedicated of Directioners could admit things just weren’t the same.

And then 2016 rolled around and 1D decided that maybe it was time for a break. Tweenage girls (and some grown women!) the world over were devastated, but at least we have some of the boys’ solo projects to enjoy.

(And by that we mean Harry Styles)
