Follow ➡️@cnnclimate ➡️Australians are facing a terrifying start to the new year, as bushfires ripped through popular tourist spots on the country’s southeast coast, forcing thousands to take refuge on nearby beaches, and killing at least seven people since Tuesday. The Rural Fire Service has urged all visitors to evacuate the “Tourist Leave Zone,” which covers swaths of New South Wales, before Saturday when temperatures will reach 104 degrees Fahrenheit. NSW has been hardest hit among the states in Australia — fires have burned more than 3.6 million hectares of land statewide since July. Australia is experiencing one of its worst droughts in decades, and experts say climate change has worsened the scope and impact of natural disasters like fires and floods. Celebrities around the world are doing what they can to help support relief after the Australian bushfires raged across the continent. Many families and animals have been put out of their homes and breathing conditions have become unbearable. Some musicians not only spoke up about the fires but publically donated money or their time to show their support.
