Valentine’s Day might be over, but Caroline Rose’s new single, “Freak Like Me,” has got us on the look-out for our own perfect other half.
“Freak Like Me” is an S&M-inspired track about finding love — and lust — with that one special person.
In a statement about the song, Rose said that the song is “about falling in love with your dominatrix. The song’s melody is very floral and beautiful. I imagine it as some sort of delicate dress dancing around 17th-century Versailles. I wanted to juxtapose this daintiness with grotesque lyrics. I’ve always wanted to write a pretty song with the word ‘vomit’ in it. Paradoxes are fun.”
The lyrics follow this theme, with references to “a vicious dom,” Xanax and handcuffs. The harsh lyrics are offset by the delicate, piano-driven instrumental.
“I kick back like there’s no tomorrow // I beg, steal, or borrow // I let it all hang free // ‘Cause you’re a freak like me,” Rose croons, capturing that specific feeling of knowing you can be a mess with someone because they’re a mess, too.
“Freak Like Me” is the second single off Rose’s upcoming album, Superstar, set for release on March 6. It follows the earworm-y “Feel The Way I Want.”
Rose will start her tour on March 6 as well, kicking the whole thing off in Albany and touring until the end of June.
