Dua Lipa’s “Break My Heart” Reveals the Singer’s Fears About Love

On March 26, British pop star Dua Lipa released a new music video for her single “Break My Heart,” which is the third official single off her second studio album Future Nostalgia, released on March 27. Lipa unveiled the cover art for “Break My Heart” via Twitter on March 20.

In the singer’s own words, “Break My Heart” is “about finally being in a happy place and knowing this new person is amazing, but then thinking, ‘Nothing else compares to this, and what if this ends and it breaks my heart?'” The song is about Dua’s boyfriend, model Anwar Hadid. The couple reportedly met in June 2019 when Hadid, who was working on his debut album Bleach, showed his musical work to Lipa. After Dua broke up with her previous boyfriend, Anwar “reached out to her for a date” and their relationship began.

Moreover, the chorus in “Break My Heart” samples Australian rock band INXS‘s 1987 hit “Need You Tonight,” which makes it an even greater hit and continues the 80s-inspired vibe that Dua Lipa has implemented into previous singles “Don’t Start Now” and “Physical.”

The music video for “Break My Heart” shows Dua in a variety of settings, including a street full of cars, a bar and an airplane. The video’s edition is extremely well-made, and Lipa and company’s colorful outfits and bubbly choreography could cheer anyone up. On top of that, the music video features a model who looks a lot like Lipa’s beau Anwar.
