The collaboration between Jessie Reyez and Eminem, “Coffin,” tells us all about the dynamics in a relationship when you love someone a little too much.
“You make me wanna jump off the roof // Cause I love you to death just like a fool.”
The track talks about making a coffin built for two and finding each other in another life. This is the third collaboration for the pair since “Good Guy” and “Nice Guy” from Eminem’s 2018 album Kamikaze. This song, on the other hand, was made for Jessie’s debut album, Before Love Came To Kill Us.
Speaking about her album in an Instagram post, Reyez said, “The whole premise of building this album was to make something that made people think about their mortality.” She decided to drop it early and even pulled it down from pre-order “to make changes because I needed to make sure I was passionate and proud of it — not the label, not my managers — me. So I did. If we drop now and the world ends tomorrow, at least my art was authentic.”
Reyez was set to support Billie Eilish‘s tour for her debut record When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the tour was postponed. Check out here how other tours have been affected by current circumstances.
Eminem also shared on his Instagram in regards to the song with the caption “Me and @jessiereyez just keep offing each other… dammit! Check out our new duet “Coffin” on her new album out now! Love is in the air! Link in bio.”
