SuperM made the most of quarantine through a live-streamed augmented-reality concert on Sunday night. The K-Pop supergroup, made up of members of EXO, SHINee, NCT 127 and WayV, was the first to perform as part of Beyond LIVE, a live concert streaming service created by SM Entertainment and Naver.
In a press release on their website, SM Entertainment said of the event:
“This concert is not just a live broadcast of an offline performance, but a customized performance optimized for online, through three-dimensional graphics with AR (augmented reality) technology, live concert and music broadcasting, and differentiated camera walking across music videos. It was designed to maximize the excitement of the performance for the audience watching the performance online at home.”
The group performed “Jopping” and other songs from their debut mini-album SuperM, released in October 2019. The group then amped up the excitement even more when they announced that they will be making their comeback soon. They then jumped into a performance of an unreleased song, “Tiger Inside,” which will be on their next release. They went on to perform a highlight medley, giving fans a sneak peek at what the next album will sound like.
Beyond LIVE streamed the concert to over 200 countries. The service features ways for fans to interact with each other and the artists during the show, including subtitles in several languages.
Fans were able to purchase tickets through V Live, a popular live-streaming app that many K-Pop idols use to interact with fans. Through the app, fans are able to purchase content through virtual currency. The standard ticket price for the show came out to around $30 USD. Organizers behind the show have stated that proceeds will go towards the production crew and the technical team who worked to put the event together.
Other SM Entertainment artists will be following up SuperM’s performance. Next up is WayV on May 3. After that, NCT Dream will perform on May 10, and NCT 127 will perform on May 17.
