Last Friday, JoJo dropped her latest single, “Lonely Hearts,” which is making us even more excited for her upcoming album! Good to know is the follow-up to 2016’s Mad Love, which was a fan favorite.
“Lonely Hearts” mixes strong beats with an acoustic guitar riff, demonstrating the blend of JoJo’s R&B influences and strong songwriting. The lyrics describe a toxic relationship that the singer just can’t seem to tear herself away from.
“I cannot fuck me up // like you // I’m insecure enough // and so tired of guessin’ if you care,” she sings soulfully, before continuing to the chorus: “How can I work on me if I’m working on your body?”
In a press release, JoJo said, “This song continues the journey of self-love that I’ve been on. Realizing that while temptation and self-doubt may arise, at the end of the day, choosing self-preservation over toxic relationships is what I’m doing in my life right now.”
“Lonely Hearts” is the second single off the album, following last month’s “Man.” Good to know will come out May 1.
In a statement about the album, JoJo explained, “I called the album good to know because of everything I’ve learned in the past few years — every piece of feedback, criticism (internal or external), whatever it is – it’s all just information. And it’s all good! I’ve been lucky to have the space to reflect on my own journey up to now, and I hope people can take comfort in the fact that I am not anywhere near perfect, and I will never sugarcoat anything. We are all constantly living and learning, and that’s what makes this life so fun.”
We can’t wait to hear what the rest of the album sounds like! Check out “Lonely Hearts” below!
