BTS Join the Fight for Racial Equality With $1 Million Donation to Black Lives Matter

K-pop superstars are joining the fight for racial equality with a massive donation to Black Lives Matter. BTS and their management company Big Hit Entertainment donated $1 million dollars to the organization.

News of the donation was first reported by Variety on Saturday, June 6. While BTS has not directly confirmed their donation, Big Hit and Black Lives Matter have confirmed it. Earlier in the week, the group did tweet their solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, stating, “We stand against racial discrimination. We condemn violence. You, I and we all have the right to be respected. We will stand together. #BlackLivesMatter.”

In a statement to Variety, Black Lives Matter managing director Kailee Scales said of the donation: “Black people all over the world are in pain at this moment from the trauma of centuries of oppression. We are moved by the generosity of BTS and allies all over the world who stand in solidarity in the fight for Black lives.”

BTS’ donation has inspired their fans to start the hashtag “#MatchAMillion” on Twitter, encouraging others to donate to BLM and match the group’s donation. The hashtag is still one of the top trending topics on Twitter as of writing.

K-Pop fans have been doing their part in promoting racial equality and stopping racist posts on social media. Fans of many different idol groups have been drowning out hateful and racist posts on social media by posting K-Pop related photos, memes and posting support for protestors.
