Tegan and Sara, an indie-pop duo composed of Canadian sisters, have broken many formations throughout their duration as musicians. Over the last few years, the pair has been releasing more and more tidbits about their life growing up and what it was like. Their recent music video release does just that.
The video for their single “I Know I’m Not The Only One” premiered this previous Wednesday, streamed live on YouTube, in a 24-minute display. The music video depicts the girls’ high school days and cliché yearbook propaganda, back when they were growing up in Calgary. It’s filled with nostalgia and humor, as classic yearbook photographs are recreated.
The girls shared on their Instagram, “Sara wrote ‘I Know I’m Not The Only One’ when we were in high school. When we heard the demo 20 years later, the melodies & words resonated as deeply as anything we’ve done since. We hope sharing the new video brought a tiny bit of joy to you, during this weird and awful time. ❤️ 📸 Our hope was to emulate our high school selves in our new music video for ‘I Know I’m Not The Only One.’ This is us wearing shirts with our teenage school photos. We want to see your best yearbook photos! Upload yours to stories, tag @teganandsara plus #iknowimnottheonlyone. We will be sharing them on our stories page all day!”
The songstresses put out a memoir, titled High School, that documents their highs and lows of their adolescent years and navigating their way through high school. It’s filled with one-of-a-kind entries and gives a glimpse of who the girls are as real people, sisters and musical partners.
The duo was scheduled to go on tour in lieu of their latest LP, Hey, I’m Just Like You, but the tour was cancelled due to COVID-19. On August 7, Tegan and Sara’s remix EP, Hey, We’re Just Like You, will be released. The EP contains remixes of tracks off Hey, I’m Just Like You. Pre-save here.
