Charlie Puth and blackbear recently collaborated for the first time on their project “Hard On Yourself.” The collaboration stemmed from a video that Puth had posted to his Instagram, playing a snippet of the song back in July with the caption “made this today…” Blackbear had commented on the post, saying, “lemme drop a verse” and just like that, within a couple weeks, Charlie had tweeted that he and Blackbear were working on a new song.
Blackbear and I are working on that song and it sounds fooookin GOOD

The song’s lyrics enforce self-love and praising women for their natural beauty with lyrics “I can see you’re struggling // Promise you’ll find love again // Yeah, it will be alright // Why are you so hard on yourself? // Try not to fall apart // You’re perfect just the way you are.” Charlie, who produced the track himself, described the song as sounding like “90’s R&B BUT IN 2020” in a tweet and even posted another video to his Instagram account, breaking down the song to show exactly how he got that sound just right.
HARD ON YOURSELF IS 90’s R&B BUT IN 2020.

From a quick beat Charlie made in ten minutes and had posted to his Instagram, we received an unexpected collaboration that we never knew we needed, and its feel-good vibes pushing self-love are exactly what a lot of the world needs to hear right now. Charlie has already posted another snippet of a song he’s been working on on his socials, and we’re excited to see what else the musician has up his sleeve in the near future. In the meantime, you can check out the audio for Charlie’s latest collaboration with blackbear, “Hard on Yourself,” below.
