It seems like the Internet was, for once, all in agreement over their crush on Justin Bieber after the music video for “Popstar” dropped on September 3. The DJ Khaled song featuring Drake came out in July and instantly became a summer hit, peaking at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The music video starts with a montage of Khaled begging Drake to do the music video for their song. Drake, annoyed at Khaled’s desperation, decides to call in a favor by asking Justin Bieber to star in the video. After this scene, the music begins, and we see J Biebs waking up surrounded by what looks like the aftermath of a crazy party. Bieber is lip-synching to Drake’s verses with such ease and swag it seems as though the song is actually his. In addition, Bieber is dressed to the nines in a neon suit and diamond chains. His hair is styled similarly to his infamous flow haircut. Overall, Bieber looks better than he ever has, and his confidence in the video takes it to another level.

I came from a small town in Stratford Ontario Canada. I didn’t have material things and was never motivated by money or fame I just loved music. But as I became a teenager I let my insecurities and frustrations dictate what I put my value in. My values slowly started to change. Ego and power started to takeover and my relationships suffered because of it. I truly desire healthy relationships. I want to be motivated by truth and love. I want to be aware of my blind spots and learn from them! I want to walk in the plans God has for me and not try and do it on my own! I want to give up my selfish desires daily so I can be a good husband and future dad! I’m grateful that I can walk with Jesus as he leads the way.
The song continues with the lyric, “You would probably think my manager is Scooter Braun,” as Scooter Braun himself, Justin Bieber’s actual manager, comes into the video. Bieber continues waltzing through his popstar lifestyle; going through fittings, showcasing his collection of cars, and being surrounded by beautiful women. The video is really fun, showing Bieber getting lit with his crew, some fun dancers, and a great solo shot showcasing his tattoos. The whole theme of the video and song is clearly bragging about their lifestyles of being rich and famous, but the video doesn’t come off as pretentious. It is entertaining and light-hearted, with great outfits and scenery. Undoubtedly, the best outfit is the big blue fuzzy jacket Bieber wears towards the end of the video.
The video ends with Bieber waking up from a dream, the entire video we just watched, next to his wife, Hailey Bieber. The dream then becomes reality, as Bieber’s phone rings to show Drake is calling him. The video then ends with some behind-the-scenes shots as the credits roll. Overall, the video was highly enjoyable, giving the audience fun interactions between artists as well as some swoon-worthy shots of Bieber. “Popstar” was directed by Director X and produced by production company Fela. With over 28 million views on YouTube, we aren’t the only ones who enjoyed the Popstar music video. Watch it here.
