Sasha Sloan is asking us all the right questions.
Building up anticipation for her debut album coming out October 16, Sloan has been releasing singles which encapsulate all of our thoughts. In particular, the single “Is It Just Me” takes the words out of our heads and puts it onto a track.
If us telling you that the song is a lyrical embodiment of your thoughts, let Charlie Puth tell you that. In Sloan’s Instagram post promoting her single he says, “Lyrics on this are masterful”. And that’s exactly what we’re saying, too. Focusing towards the instrumentation used on the song, Sloan opts for the guitar and gives us a few chords in a soft and slow melody. It sounds like something you would have playing in a coming of age film when everything starts falling apart. Sloan talks about how she hates holding babies, people trying to save her, how politicians are annoying, weddings being outdated, Friends being overrated, and the internet being obnoxious. While raising all these points, she immediately follows with the question “Is it just me?” and to be quite frank, Sasha, no it isn’t. Have you not seen that one viral tweet talking about how overrated Friends is?

The single contains more references to modern day culture. For instance, Sloan references to drugs such as marijuana and coke, in the lyrics “I think marijuana’s classy // And doing coke is trashy”. Moreover, in the bridge she sings “I can’t be the only one, yeah” which is a reference to her song “The Only.”
