100 Gecs’ “Hand Crushed by a Mallet” Music Video Is an Acid Trip

100 Gecs’ “Hand Crushed By a Mallet” music video is nothing short of an acid trip. The modern, trash-pop duo is back at it again but this time they’ve reached a new level of weird that only they could fathom. Not unusual for the duo, the video teeters on the edge of chaotic. In true Halloween spirit, the members of the band dressed up, with Lauren Les appearing as a fly and Dylan Brady as a witch.

The concept follows Brady’s character who is chased by Les’ fly for the entire run. All throughout the video, one sees them playing a large recorder, beating each other in chess, and waving around gigantic weapons as they wade through a room filled with nothing but trash. The video is shot entirely on an iPhone which only makes the lyrics like “You circled me inside my room” feel like a fun, visceral experience, with super trippy vibes.

Weston Allen makes another directorial appearance with the video as well. He first popped up to direct and co-create the remix for this 100 Gecs song, and it did not disappoint. Featuring the likes of Canadian singer-songwriter Nicole Dollanganger, Craig Owens (from Chiodos and D.R.U.G.S) and Fall Out Boy, the video’s chaotic, (and arguably Adult Swim inspired) animation style matched the remix a little too well, and was just as much of a fever dream as this official music video.

100 Gecs’ “Hand Crushed By a Mallet” is a visual oddity that’s meant to have your brain spilling out your ears after watching. But, somehow, it’s one of the best brain-melting experiences you’ll have this month. At least this brain-melting experience won’t leave you feeling bad after.

Check out the video below and even revisit the album the song was birthed from, 1000 Gecs and the Tree of Clues.
