Miley Cyrus Performs Breathtaking Cover of Pearl Jam’s “Just Breathe”
This year, Miley Cyrus has proven to the world that she encompasses a killer range throughout her “Backyard Sessions” performances presented by MTV Unplugged. During this pre-recorded set, Cyrus sang an exceptionally soothing rendition of Pearl Jam’s 2009 track “Just Breathe.” In the overall series, Cyrus takes on a wide array of covers, ranging from songs of Britney Spears, Jackson Browne, The Cardigans, and The Velvet Underground.
More recently, Cyrus has tapped into her appreciation for the rock genre from releasing her popular single “Midnight Sky” to successfully making Blondie’s iconic hit “Heart Of Glass” into her own (which has now gone viral). As the icing on the cake, Cyrus fully embraces her transition from pop to rock by sporting a mullet for the past year. During her performance of “Just Breathe,” she is captured wearing a full 80s inspired look; wearing bright sparkly eye makeup, hoops, and a dazzling snakeskin dress to pay homage to the rock icons that inspired her.
The 27-year-old belts out Pearl Jam’s lyrics with passion and poise while still adding in her own flare. As a Tennessee native, Cyrus’ southern accent compliments her warm, raspy vocals making this track feel more therapeutic.
After only a few days after releasing this cover, Cyrus has accumulated over 1.5 million views on YouTube. Fans both old and new to Cyrus are loving the fresh sounds the singer has shared this year as she continues to expand artistically (and no longer limited to one genre). Pearl Jam themselves have praised Cryus for the emotional cover and expressed their gratitude via Twitter.
