Tegan and Sara Kickstart the Holidays With “Make You Mine This Season”

For those of you that start your holiday season as soon as the Halloween decorations are retired, legendary duo Tegan and Sara have released your new anthem, “Make You Mine This Season.” The feel-good holiday bop is fresh off of the soundtrack for Hulu’s upcoming holiday release, Happiest Season.

In this time of quarantine and isolation, the holidays are shining in the distance like a beacon of warmth. Holiday décor photo-ops have already started popping up on Instagram feeds, with the rationale being that we could all use as much of the joy that comes with twinkling lights and cheerful winter scenes as the days get darker. This latest synth-pop ballad will make a fantastic backdrop for your own decorating session, as Tegan and Sara wonder, “Have I been good enough? // To ask for your love.”

Though the song does specifically mention heartbreak under a Christmas tree, “Make You Mine This Season” has an overarching jolliness that could extend it’s life span from November all the way through New Years. The gentle sleigh bells in the background add just a touch of magic without reading as overtly “Jingle Bells”-esque. There’s a hopefulness mixed into the upbeat vocals that warm your chest like a cup of hot chocolate.

Most heart-warming of all, there’s the temptation of new romance mixed into Tegan and Sara’s voices as they proudly sing, “You’re the only girl I’ve got on my list // I want your name, I know it’s foolish // But I chase the feeling, ’cause you keep me dreaming // That I could make you mine // Make you mine this season.” Even if there isn’t a significant other waiting for you under the Christmas tree, this song is guaranteed to bring your thoughts of someone special to the forefront of your mind.

Happiest Season, directed by Clea DuVall and starring Dan Levy, Mackenzie Davis, Alison Brie and Kristin Stewart, will be released by Hulu on the streaming service on Wednesday, November 25. According to the IMDb page, Tegan and Sara’s anthem will be featured on “a holiday romantic comedy that captures the range of emotions tied to wanting your family’s acceptance, being true to yourself, and trying not to ruin Christmas.”

Whether your holiday season lasts eight days, 25 days or from October to February, Tegan and Sara’s “Make You Mine The Season” is sure to add some cheer to the end of this year.
