BTS now have another Christmas gift for fans to look forward to! On Friday, November 13, SBS (Seoul Broadcasting System) announced that the superstars will be headlining their upcoming SBS Gayo Daejeon on Christmas Day.
The festival is one of the biggest end-of-year music festivals in South Korea, first airing in 1997. The other two biggest festivals held are MBC Gayo Daejejeon, and KBS Gayo Daechukje.
The festival is set to take place and broadcast on Christmas Day in the South Korean city of Daegu. While the festival itself will not have a live audience due to COVID restrictions, it will be streaming online as it usually is. There are no updates yet as to how fans can tune in. The theme of this year’s event is “The Wonder Year.”
Daegu is actually the hometown of two BTS members, vocalist V and rapper Suga. However, it is possible that Suga will not be performing alongside the group as he recently underwent surgery to fix a torn labrum in his left shoulder. The injury stemmed from an accident the rapper was in when he was still a trainee for Big Hit Entertainment.
BTS also headlined last year’s festival, alongside fellow Big Hit group Tomorrow x Together. The festival also included performances from TWICE, NCT 127, GOT7, Red Velvet, and Monsta X, amongst others.
The group’s performance will take place a little over a month after the release of their new album BE (Deluxe Edition). The album is set for release on November 20. The album will follow Map of The Soul 7 and Map of The Soul 7: The Journey, released earlier this year.
The 7-piece will be debuting the album’s lead single “Life Goes On” at the 2020 American Music Awards as well as performing their first entirely English song, “Dynamite.”
