Phoebe Bridgers and Maggie Rogers Raise Over $173,000 with “Iris” Cover

Finally, something good came out of 2020.

Indie-pop songwriter Phoebe Bridgers vowed on Twitter to release a cover of “Iris” (yes, that “Iris,” the iconic smash hit from the Goo Goo Dolls) if Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election.

After Biden was declared the president-elect, Bridgers kept her promise and delivered an enchanting cover of the classic tune with another surprise: alt-pop queen Maggie Rogers singing on the track with her!

The track, released on November 13, was made available for download via Bandcamp, as a “pay-want-you-want” piece. It was a beautiful, unique, and artsy, with the harmony of their voices pairing so well together.

Proceeds from the song were donated to “Fair Fight,” the voting rights and advocacy group led by Stacey Abrams. The Goo Goo Dolls were supportive of the project, and shared it on their own social media.

This dream-collab hit all the high notes, and the ladies took to Instagram this weekend to announce that $173,703.95 was raised for Fair Fight. Love that for them and us.

This has been a big year for Bridgers, having released her Punisher album in June — not to mention her collaboration with Flea and Jon Theodore last month on Bright Eyes’ “Miracle of Life,” a song to benefit Planned Parenthood. In addition, she also performed the Punisher track “Graceland Too” for Honor Her Wish, a Ruth Bader Ginsberg tribute.

She also launched her label Saddest Factory Records, an imprint of Dead Oceans.

And even though most artists would quit while they’re ahead, Bridgers shows no signs of stopping. On Monday, she released a trailer for her upcoming EP If We Make It Through December, with some sweet, slow-jams for the holiday season.
