Rina Sawayama And BloodPop® Join Forces For Upbeat “LUCID” Single

Japanese-British musician Rina Sawayama received an endless string of praise for her stellar debut studio album, SAWAYAMA, which was released on April 17, 2020. Los Angeles-based producer BloodPop® unleashed his best work yet alongside Lady Gaga on her sixth studio album, Chromatica. Needless to say, the pair has had a better year than most, so joining forces for an upbeat single titled “LUCID” was a no-brainer.

“LUCID” is an energetic pop collaboration that heavily bears what is now known as BloodPop®’s signature sound. Remnants of his previous work with Gaga are evident in the song, with many fans noting that “LUCID” heavily resembles “Rain On Me,” the hit Chromatica single featuring Ariana Grande. However, Sawayama’s distinctive vocals elevate the track. As if her intentions weren’t clear enough, the pop star reaffirmed that her new single is all about having fun, stating that, “2020’s been a tough year so I wanted to finish it off with a dance bop to take us into a more hopeful 2021.”

Sawayama also commented on the concept for “LUCID” and its noteworthy lyrics. “It’s about living a different life through dreaming, whether it’s to be with the dream girl or to be the dream girl.” She co-wrote the song with Lauren Aquilina in early 2018 on the floor of her “tiny rented living room.” In regards to the production work, Sawayama said, “BloodPop® sent us the beat and the melody flowed out so easily that I remember at one point I started hovering because I knew this would be easy to write. I’ve kept this song secret for two years so I’m excited to finally release it to the world!”

“LUCID” is set to appear on the deluxe version of SAWAYAMA, which will also include new tracks like “We Out Here” and “Bees & Honey”. Acoustic renditions of songs like “STFU!” and “Bad Friend“, plus Sawayama’s cover of The 1975’s “Love It If We Made It” will also be included in the bundle, which will be released on December 4.
