5 Arctic Monkeys Tracks Where Alex Turner’s Songwriting Shines

3. “Don’t Sit Down ’Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair”

At first, this track does not seem to make sense; it just sounds like a list of bizarre activities — e.g. “do the Macarena in the devil’s lair” — someone would do. Even Alex’s explanation of the song does not reveal anything deep about it: “I said [the song title] to somebody whose chair I’d moved and I didn’t want them to hurt themselves… So then we thought, well, ok if that’s what you can’t do, then what sort of ridiculous things can you do that are probably more dangerous than if you just sat down?”

Nevertheless, if we pay attention to the lyrics and want to make sense out of them, we could say that the song is about taking chances and risks in life just to see what happens, as ridiculous as they are. Or maybe it truly is just about moving chairs. Either way, Turner is a genius, and that is not up for debate.
