Nashville-based pop-rock band The Band CAMINO dropped their latest single “1 Last Cigarette” on February 26. The track serves as a preview leading up to their highly-anticipated full-length album, which is expected to be released sometime this year. The alternative-pop song paints us a picture of someone coming to the realization that they’ve been partying a little too hard lately.
Lyrically, the song is pretty introspective while also maintaining the band’s signature upbeat sound. With lyrics like “I can’t, I can’t, I can’t stand the man I’m seeing in the mirror” and “Maybe I should see somebody // ‘Cause I can’t keep this up,” the track paints an image of someone who is getting tired of their own bullsh*t.
“All my friends, they left me for dead // And I don’t have a clue where I am // I lost my keys now all I got left // Is ten missed calls and one last cigarette // All my friends, they hate me again // I get too drunk when I get depressed // I lost my sh*t now all I got left // Is ten missed calls and one last cigarette,” they sing in the chorus. The song is actually pretty dark thematically, but also super relatable for those of us who have spent one too many nights partying way too hard as a means of coping with life.
If you’ve ever had your own bad habits come back to slap you in the face, this song is definitely for you. If you’ve accidentally lost your keys on a night out, this song is also for you. According to guitarist/vocalist Spencer Stewart, “I could tell you this song is about how using alcohol as a coping mechanism perpetuates already unhealthy habits, or use it as a social commentary on youth party culture, but really it’s just about getting drunk and losing my keys.” We feel you, Spencer.
