A Year in Review: Michael Swank of Foxera

Throughout the next few weeks, we will be sharing personal perspectives on the past year and a half throughout the COVID-19 pandemic from artists and those who work in the music industry.

I joined Foxera in 2019, just months before the pandemic had hit and forced the entire music and travel industry (amongst many others industries) to a halt. The group is based out of Phoenix, AZ, whereas I myself live in Austin, TX. While this bought us time to write and get everything together sonically, we had no choice but to write vocals for these songs entirely over Zoom. The experience was way different than writing in person – being in a room and being immersed in the energy/excitement from everyone around you is a feeling that’s truly hard to replicate over video chat. Some days we were 100% on it creatively, and other days we just wanted to bash our heads against the keyboard because nothing was working. But at the end of the day, Zoom truly gave us a way to push forward and create art that the four of us are truly proud of, and we cannot wait to share these next few songs with everybody.
