Ahead of the release of their fourth studio album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, Halsey released an IMAX film under the same name to accompany the album. The hour long film has very few lines spoken and uses music as the main storytelling device. Due to the limited words spoken, the lines that are included hold much more power. With a simple look on their face, Halsey was able to show exactly how their character was feeling along with the messages of their new songs. The film follows Halsey who portrays Queen Lila on a journey through her pregnancy after the death of her husband, the King. The film’s synopsis reads “If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, an hour-long film experience set to the music of Halsey’s upcoming album, introduces a young pregnant Queen, Lila, as she wrestles with the manipulative chokehold of love to ultimately discover that the ability to create life (and end it) unlocks the paranormal power within her.”
The film was directed by Colin Tilley who has worked with Halsey in the past for visuals for “Without Me” and “You Should Be Sad”. Throughout the duration of the film Halsey is seen wearing several jaw-dropping outfits thanks to costume designs by Law Roach. The combination of the music, costumes, and Halsey’s acting will have viewers on the tip of their toes, always wondering what’s coming next. The film was written by Halsey and showcases just how much of a creative genius they really are along with their incredible storytelling abilities they’ve shown over the years. The film is playing now in select IMAX theaters and is an album experience you don’t want to miss out on. Halsey’s fourth studio album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power is out everywhere now!
