Cassie Marin Unravels The Digital World With “Busy Body” Single

Los Angeles-based vocalist, producer and multi-instrumentalist Cassie Marin explores a familiar topic with her latest single, “Busy Body.” With technology at the forefront of our daily lives, rarely do we stop to consider its pros and cons. Marin brings that conversation to life, unraveling the digital world — and our attachment to it — with a catchy pop tune.

“Busy Body” is elevated by enchanting vocals that pair nicely with its indie-electronica beats and melodic synths. Marin delivers sharp-witted lyrics that explore the binary of being both the watcher and the watched in the digital world. “‘Busy Body’ is about being a loner in a world where cliques never cease to exist,” Cassie says.

In an era dominated by social surveillance, the track invites listeners to reflect on our culture’s technological obsession. Social media likes and follows have become the new markers for petty social politics. We know this all too well, living in a world where TikTok decides the next radio hit and Instagram followers can make anyone famous.

“This song sort of realized itself during a freestyle. I was transported into a headspace in which I was viewing our digital era from an outsider’s perspective,” Marin revealed via an Instagram post. “The beating heart of the song grew from there —
a heart that hosted the dilemma of our compulsions to watch others and be watched by others.”

Growing up in Miami, Cassie spent much of her childhood training as a gymnast with dreams of going to the Olympics. However, her gymnastics career ended abruptly when she suffered a serious injury at the age of 13. She then found solace in her love for music. Teaching herself how to produce and write songs, Cassie has carried the same grit and self-discipline that inspired her Olympic dreams into the art she makes today.

You can listen to “Busy Body” on all major streaming platforms.
